Happy Waxident / Lost Wax Casted & Hand-Fabricated Necklace / Sterling Silver

This is my very first piece to incorporate lost wax casting and I am SO in love! I have wanted to learn how to lost wax cast for a while now and finally enrolled in a 10-week class. Happy Waxident is the first piece to come from learning this new skill and the possibilites feel endless. 
 
This everyday statement piece features a gorgeous asymmetrical slab of tattered and melted cast silver, handmade first in wax and transformed into solid silver through the lost wax casting process (see final video for a behind-the-scenes look at the final casting step!). A bottom border of square wire fabricated later completes the symmetrical outline of the pendant. All of this hangs on a new style of hand-fabricated square wire chain that combines my classic beaded wire links with a new style of balled-end link. Finished with selective black patina, this necklace is a striking, simple, badass work of wearable art that marks a new chapter in my smithing journey!
